# Gameplay in a Nutshell

## Metaverse Farming

Welcome to your farm! You are now a virtual farmer.

Each plot is a different NFT that is in your wallet and the gold you own finances your farm.

Looking over your farm, you can grow over 20 different crops and harvest the seeds. Each crop takes a different amount of time to grow to maturity.

<div align="right"><img src="/files/QsMMll2CfsKSoojdIaC5" alt="Managing the plots"></div>

## Full In-game Economy

As players are buying and selling, the system hides all complexity of interacting with the underlying blockchain and decentralized marketplace.

The system dynamically calculates an accurate price, reasonable slippage and if the price is better when the transaction is executed, the excess is given to the user.

![Shopping for crops](/files/umyupXZDafJaMBvPyv6L)

## Seamlessly Move Assets

At it's core, we believe you should only need to know you are using crypto until you need to move your assets.

There is a seamless MetaMask confirmation that pops up when you need to confirm a purchase/sale or approve the system to move tokens for you.

CropXYZ was launched to Polygon to reduce transaction costs.

![Metamask interactions when buying](/files/aKTTai7b5444eC05D7cJ)

# Plant Basics

It's easy: Plant ➔ Grow ➔ Harvest

In the game, we make it really easy to pick an unused plot that you own, and select the crops that you want to grow. In the background the game "stakes" those seed tokens into the plot NFT and after a certain time period, you will be able to "harvest" (i.e. "redeem") the seeds back.

![Nine unique plot NFTs that are growing different crops.](/files/QJYgAtP1mPzFsFlv1Lgd)

When planting, even though the yield on a fully grown plot increases as the number of tiles in that plot increases. Keep in mind, you do need to add in more seeds to get it started.&#x20;

### Seed Requirements

A plot of land is made up of a certain number of "tiles". Each tile requires 9 seeds in order to be planted. Here is the breakdown of the number of seeds:

* **1x1** plots require **9 seeds**
* **2x2** plots require **36 seeds**
* **3x3** plots require **81 seeds**
* **4x4** plots require **144 seeds**
* **5x5** plots require **225 seeds**

### &#x20;Plot Types

Each plot has a specific type of crop that it is really good at growing. If the seed type matches the plot type then it will produce the maximum amount of seeds. If the plot type does not match the crop then the plot will take a longer time to produce the harvest and may not produce the maximum amount of seeds.

## Crop Lifecycle

Each crop takes a different amount of time to go from seeded, to fully grown (harvestable) and death. Typically, the faster a crop grows, also the shorter it will live.

![Lifecycle of wheat.](/files/PXfDsiG6EhDanGxwUfzh)

Be ready to return to your plots regularly because if you wait too long, the crops that you planted will die and the seeds that you originally planted will be lost. In "The Farm" section there is a breakdown for each crop, how long it will take to be harvestable and how long it will live once fully grown.

# Farmer Starter Packs

## What is it?

The Farmer Starter Packs are in-game assets (NFTs) that represents what you get when you start playing. This can be thought of as the basket of in-game resources that you receive to make onboarding easier to the game.&#x20;

This specific NFT is hosted on Base, and the properties can be seen on Opensea:

<https://opensea.io/collection/cropxyz-starter-packs-base>

Our V1 collection on Ethereum is here but those will be migrated to Base as well:

{% embed url="<https://opensea.io/collection/cropxyz-starter-packs>" %}

Along with the "plot deed" which explains the plot of land you will receive, a Farmer Starter Pack will entitle you to receive zGOLD, crop seeds (of the type shown) and in a future version release a certain fertilizer type.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Just so you know:** In the Farmer Starter pack, you will get enough seeds to plant in one of your plots. If you want to grow a different plant on your plot when you first start, you can buy it from the in-game shop or trade with another player!
{% endhint %}

## How does it work?

Head over to this link here to buy a Farmer Starter Pack: <https://farm.cropxyz.com> . The price of a Farmer Start Pack is only based on the size (1x1, 2x2, up to 5x5) and the other traits are randomly generated.&#x20;

When you buy a Farmer Starter Pack on Base, the system will automatically send you all of your resources to the same wallet to Gold (<https://gold.dev>).

If you minted a Farmer Starter Pack and still have not received the plots, gold and seeds in your wallet, reach out to us on Farcaster (<https://warpcast.com/cropxyz>) or on Twitter (<https://twitter.com/CropXYZ>).

#### Here are a couple examples of Farmer Starter Packs:

![5x5 Starter Pack with Tomatoes](/files/eItF2Vm17HKpFt9mCLL8) ![3x3 Starter Pack with Wheat](/files/2o8KOc28VYaQGBG2JOgP) ![1x1 Starter Pack with Roses](/files/cZHFHAYVA41GqGuBJyIK)

These Farmer Starter Packs then produce the following plots:

![5x5 Fruit Vine Plot](/files/G4woH2zzTNJMIxpPsNZY) ![3x3 Grain Field Plot](/files/d3kBlMTXHXGlI0PlFP4D) ![1x1 Flower Bed Plot](/files/c671JpeIRUor5OvqON2p)

## Starter Pack Properties

![](/files/DRiHHAIElARHBkfUrlmq)

### Descriptions

#### **Activated**

For all newly minted packs, this trait is "No". Originally, it was intended to let potential buyers know if it has not been used in game yet. **Now that minting starter packs automatically sends the plots and in-game resources, the "Activated" property can be disregarded.**

#### **Fertilizer**

There are three possible outcomes for fertilizer **10k**, **20k**, or **None**. These are intended to act as a boost to the base stats of a player's plot. Note: not all starter packs have this. In alpha, fertilizer has not been released but it will be released in future phases.&#x20;

#### **Growth Rate**

This is how fast your plot of land grows plants. The majority of the plots are "Medium" growth rate. Some are "Slow" which grow slightly slower but not too much of a concern in Season 1. Some have "Fast" which grows faster than "Medium".

#### **Plot Type**

See the earlier message on plot types. Each plot is only able to grow the crops in that particular type. Here are 5 plot types in Season 1:

* Bean Garden
* Berry Bush
* Flower Bed
* Fruit Vine
* Grain Field

#### **Plot Yield**

Similar to "Growth Rate" in that this boosts the base stats of your plot. Majority of the plots fall in the "Medium" but some have "High" which produces more while other have "Low" which produces less but still more than what was put into the plot.

#### **Season**

This is a reference to the game edition this Farmer Starter Pack was released.

#### **Seed Bag**

This is one specific crop that can be planted into your plot. Season 1 features 24 crops, some rarer than others!&#x20;

#### **Size Height**

This is one dimension of sizing. All Season 1 plots are squares so the height and width will be the same number.

#### **Size Width**

This is the other dimension of sizing. All Season 1 plots are squares so the height and width will be the same number.

# Roadmap

Take a sneak preview into the evolution of gaming experience of CropXYZ.

## Alpha Feature Set

#### Welcome to your farm

The focus behind alpha was to allow players to truly see, transact and interact with the in-game assets in their wallet. This was done in a number of different ways but here are a few key game play experiences that were required to make that a reality:

* Buying a Farmer Starter Pack sends player their in game gold, seeds,
* Buy seeds off the in-game marketplace
* Selling crop seeds to the in-game marketplace
* Planting seeds into their plot of land
* Harvesting the excess seeds produced by a plot of land
* Migrate the existing Polygon contracts to the Base and Gold chain (<https://gold.dev>)

## Beta Feature Set

#### Level-up your farm and interact with neighbors

Now that players are able to handle the basics of farm life, we have a series of features aimed to enrich the experience and see real progression. Also the farmlands are home to many other farmers, why not meet them too! Here's a high level look at what is coming out next:

* See other farms
* Trading directly with other farmers
* Level-up farm plots
* Compete on weekly challenges and unlock achievements

## World Feature Set

#### Expand your farm universe

We will just preview this for now but we intend for CropXYZ to be much larger than just a farm centered game. We look to iterate on what the community loves and introduce expansions that will excite. Stay tuned for more updates!

# Bean Garden

To bean or to not bean is the true question. As you get better at harvesting, try your hand at growing a plot of beans. They are a bit slower than grain but overall still pretty simple.

# System Overview

We have built out one of the most advanced, extensible and interoperable platforms to power blockchain based gaming experiences.

## Summary

There are four main smart contract networks that work in concert to manage user resources, organize on-chain data and facilitate a real-time economy.&#x20;

![](/files/hvPEWSGK6asbjOW3ApbX)

In addition, we have built a query layer that ingests blockchain data and presents it in an easy-to-consume fashion for front-end web and mobile apps.

## System Components

### Storing On-chain

The system is built on over 40 different smart contracts (with over 700 tests) that work together to provide a rich experience for players. In the following section we dive into more detail on the specific smart contracts that make up the core game. See this section for more information:

{% content-ref url="/pages/pGNPEEzMPjXyiBHnSBiS" %}
[Blockchain Layer](/tech/blockchain-layer)
{% endcontent-ref %}

### Summarizing Events

Apart from the base smart contract layer, we leverage Airstack to compute a number of aggregations and expose them for use in off-chain visualizations. See this section for more information:

{% content-ref url="/pages/0BCyP6Bf47JdpZSi1ynq" %}
[Query Layer](/tech/query-layer)

# Blockchain Layer

While there are over 40 smart contracts that make up the system, here are the four primary ones that contribute to the base game operation.

## Game Engine

#### Main System Controller

This is the blockchain “brain” for a game. For example, in CropXYZ, all the requests that users make, in one way or another, goes through this set of smart contracts.

#### Contract Address:&#x20;

`0xaa8f7ada9e9cdcdbcc7e816047915c9ee8462d57`

#### Polygon Link (Migrating):

{% embed url="<https://polygonscan.com/address/0xaa8f7ada9e9cdcdbcc7e816047915c9ee8462d57>" %}

## Economic Engine

#### Complete automated market maker

This is a UniSwap-inspired constant product, automated market maker that hosts 24 different liquidity pools for CropXYZ. This is extensible enough to support any ERC20 token in relation to the internal currency (“zGOLD”).

#### Contract Address:

`0xb36233e579d397bb3fc51a808f72d9ff2f187af7`

#### Polygon Link (Migrating):

{% embed url="<https://polygonscan.com/address/0xb36233e579d397bb3fc51a808f72d9ff2f187af7#tokentxns>" %}

## Address Store

#### Locate other contracts on-chain

This can be thought of as an on-chain log of the other blockchain parts a game. Inspired by ENS, it maps human-readable words to blockchain addresses. This makes it easier for developers to reference other contracts without knowing the actual addresses.

#### Contract Address:

`0x12f885808f616b8056a37be00fdd029e1c59ab08`

#### Polygon Link (Migrating):

{% embed url="<https://polygonscan.com/address/0x12f885808f616b8056a37be00fdd029e1c59ab08>" %}

## Role Registry

#### Access control for users and contracts

When dealing with so many different contracts, there needs to be a way to manage which have access to certain functions. Within the smart contracts, there are checks with the role registry to verify that those permissions are allowed for said contract or user invocation.

#### Contract Address:

# Query Layer

Behind the scenes, there is an extensive query layer that makes it easier for the front-end to pull the data it needs.

## Indexing  Service

We leverage Airstack (<https://www.airstack.xyz/>) to create an aggregated look at the underlying Polygon blockchain.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Just so you know:** This API is exposed to anyone who wants to build apps or visuals using the CropXYZ data can pull aggregated on-chain data.
{% endhint %}

### Sample Requests

For the initial launch, we used The Graph so here are a set of sample requests that can be made to The Graph query layer. This is more for demonstrative purposes because this entire logic wil be from Airstack in this relaunch.

<details>

<summary>Overall Game State</summary>

All of the smart contracts report their pause status and contract address.

```
# Anatomy of a Plot
The Plot NFT is a built by the coordination of a series of different smart contracts.
The general structure of a plot is broken up into three main layers, represented by three different smart contracts that interact with each other. All three layers function to provide more functionality and can be improved with minimal impact to other layers.
## On-chain Representation
### Plot Core
#### Main Plot NFT
This is contract that acts as the primary ERC721. This functions to store the base stats of each plot and the ownership.
### Plot Actions
#### Set of possible actions on a plot
This is the contract that changes the harvesting state of the plot. Also it serves as the focal point of any interactions with a plot.
### Plot Metadata
#### On-chain metadata constructor
Given all the traits of a plot, this constructs the base 64 encoded JSON payload that is used to render the plot metadata. In addition, it provides some aggregations that are useful for Plot Actions layer.
# Plot Yield
## Summary
When harvesting, the key factor that determines how many seeds you get back is based on the yield boost value.
![Seeds returned based on yield value.](/files/tUIVHCAmTdpjQCMkSZ0o)
## Yield Table
Here's the internal look at the return profile based on the plot size and the relative yield value.&#x20;
![Internal table of the yields](/files/MxRC8mu6o0fskpeRjG7Y)
While the actual yield value is stored on-chain as a number, the values are bucketed into three categories as follows:
* Low Yield - 0 to 5
* Medium Yield - 6 to 10
* High Yield - 11 to 15
The parameters of these are all adjustable by registered admin on the DApp but we intend to keep them stable.
# Tokenomics
In this section we explore the tokens in the system, and how they are used in the game. This first page gives a summary of the parts and in the next pages we explain each with examples!
## Token Summary
The token interactions is split into two parts: the "Core Gameplay" and the "Financial Layer". These two work together to provide the full rich CropXYZ game experience. Through our simple to use website, we make it easy to operate on either layer.
### Core Gameplay
Core gameplay is what allows farmers to buy, sell and overall interact with each other. As you grow seeds on your plots and harvest the results, you can send or sell that to other farmers. Also, this includes how farmers get and use starter packs.
<table><thead><tr><th width="372.4894289172835" align="center">Description</th><th width="172.60513070473542" align="center">You put in</th><th align="center">You get out</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td align="center"><p><strong>Buying a Starter Pack</strong></p><p></p><p>You can mint a starter pack from: https://farm.cropxyz.com</p></td><td align="center">ETH</td><td align="center"><p><strong><code>[ on Base ]</code></strong></p><p>Starter Pack</p></td></tr><tr><td align="center"><p><strong>Activate a Starter Pack</strong></p><p></p><p>Activation reads from the starter pack NFT for the parts that make it up and sends them to your wallet on Polygon.</p></td><td align="center">Starter Pack</td><td align="center"><p><strong><code>[ on Gold ]</code></strong></p><p>Plot +</p><p>Seeds +</p><p>zGOLD</p></td></tr><tr><td align="center"><p><strong>Buying Seeds</strong></p><p></p><p>When you want to buy more seeds in the shop to save or plant.</p></td><td align="center">zGOLD</td><td align="center">Seeds</td></tr><tr><td align="center"><p><strong>Selling Seeds</strong></p><p></p><p>When you want to sell your excess seeds in the shop after a harvest.</p></td><td align="center">Seeds</td><td align="center">zGOLD</td></tr><tr><td align="center"><p><strong>Farming/Harvesting</strong></p><p></p><p>When you plant seeds into your plots, after some time you get more seeds.</p></td><td align="center"><p>Plot +</p><p>Seeds</p></td><td align="center"><p>Plot +</p><p>Seeds +</p><p>Extra seeds</p><p>(Just plot if you let crops die)</p></td></tr></tbody></table>
### Financial Layer
For the players interested in the more financial layer of the game, the on-chain system holds 24 different  liquidity pools to enable a fluid economy.&#x20;
# Pricing Modeling
For those of you familiar with or have ever used Uniswap (<https://uniswap.org/>), the internal marketplace is powered by a similar type of decentralized exchange model (constant product automated market maker). Each time a BUY happens, you will notice that the price of the next BUY is slightly higher. This means that as the supply of SEEDs goes down, the price rises. And the opposite when a SELL happens.
In relation to the constant product function, each time the supply of gold (X) or the supply of seeds (Y) increases or decreases, K (which is X \* Y) *should* stay the same. It does that by changing the "price" (which is the conversion rate between the GOLD and SEED). &#x20;
## Supply and Demand
At a very high level, the price of a crop (in zGOLD terms), is based on the supply and demand of that crop. If there is way more supply of a crop than the number of people who want that crop, the price is going to lower. If a lot of people want a crop, the price rises.&#x20;
Each crop's liquidity pool exhibits a slightly different pricing function which causes the price to start at a different point as well as behave differently with each incremental buy or sell.
### Example
Below is a very tangible example looking at the pricing function for wheat vs the pricing function for roses.
![Wheat pricing curve:   x \* y = 25,684,710,718.86](/files/VWBTInFy9p1wyKPV0g9v) ![Rose pricing curve:   x \* y = 234,870,786,424.17](/files/7whnAlr9CRKeNbR17BMO)
The way this can be interpreted is by first comparing the K-values in these two functions. The rose pricing curve's K-value is roughly an order of magnitude large than that of the wheat pricing curve. Given that these both start out with the same number of seeds in the liquidity pool (42,741 seeds), the major difference is the amount of gold in each specific liquidity pool. In the roses liquidity pool there is 5,495,210.37 zGOLD vs the amount of gold in the wheat liquidity pool is 600,938.46 zGOLD. This results in two major outcomes:
1. roses start at an initially much higher price and
2. the wheat price is far more sensitive to price changes relative to the degree of sensitivity to buys/sells of roses.
# Transaction Fee
On every transaction, there is a small fee that is captured by the liquidity pool. This serves two purposes:&#x20;
1. **Revenue** - This is seen as an aggregate system revenue based on Gross Merchandise Volume (GMV)
2. **Stability** - Given the system is built on an automated market maker, the system holds the liquidity but over time X\*Y = K models can tend towards instability.
## Stability Analysis
The problem is that for constant product function AMMs is that the smaller the K-value, the more the price moves. This means that since each transaction incrementally decreases the K-value, over a long time, the internal economic model gets more and more unstable. See a set of transactions below where the K-value delta between transactions is negative.
![Transaction Impact Analysis without Fee](/files/TzwIAwfmCNuzMOImq3Oz)
Looking at the exact same liquidity pool and set of transactions but now with a small 0.05 gold fee that feeds into the pool. This over time makes the system more stable because the K-value gets slightly larger.
![Transaction Impact Analysis with Fee](/files/C6ELASIC6jPbq00q9buN)
This makes even more sense from the perspective that as more transactions occur at a higher velocity, every incremental transaction has an infinitesimally smaller and smaller impact on price movements.
At the launch of alpha the gold fee has been set to 0.05 zGOLD on every transaction and this is not felt by the user because it looks appears closer to a small amount of slippage on the transaction.
